  • Overview

    The VP, Mission Integration shares responsibility with the CEO in promoting, integrating, and supporting the mission, vision and values of Emory Saint Josephs Hospital and promoting the legacy of the Sisters of Mercy.



    • The VP, Mission Integration (VPMI) actively participates on the Leadership Team and interacts with staff at all levels of ESJH.
    • In all aspects of fidelity to the mission, the VPMI collaborates with all areas of operations in order to identify and address theological, ethical and moral issues imbedded therein.
    • The VPMI provides oversight and direction for all areas touching on caring for the poor and spirituality, human relations.
    • S/he serves as a resource, providing education and raising values-based questions and concerns pertinent to organizational decision-making and strategic direction setting.
    • As liaison between the organization and the sponsors, local Church, religious and civic communities s/he collaborates with the CEO.
    • The VPMI oversees compliance with the ERDs within the JOC and is responsible for educating leaders, physician, Board members, etc. on the ERDs.
    • Key accountabilities of the VPMI as a member of the Leadership Team include:
      • Participates in strategic planning, budget, operations review processes; assures mission integrity by reviewing corporate documents, publications and policies; facilitates values-based decision making for major decisions; participates in due diligence processes for partnerships, mergers, etc.;
      • Collaborates in leadership selection and development.
    • Key accountabilities of the VPMI include:
      • Sets clear objectives and measurements, monitors progress and reports on mission integration, spirit at work, ethics and other areas of mission integration
      • Implements programs and celebrations that focus on mission, the Catholic and Mercy traditions, and founding stories
      • Incorporates the mission and values in orientation programs
      • Fosters theological reflection at all levels
      • Understands, implements, and mentors principles of Catholic Social Tradition
      • Leads processes for ethical analysis and decision making, discernment
      • Promotes person-centered relationships
      • Understands and applies values and principles to the business of health care in all aspects
      • Provides direct oversight of the ESJH Pastoral Care Program.


    • Five years experience in health care, education, management, governance or sponsorship is required
    • Previous experience in a Mission leadership role preferred
    • Masters level education in theology, spirituality, or related fields and understanding of Catholic Tradition
