JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides locksmith services to the organization by installing, repairing, inspecting, and recombining mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic locking and monitoring devices, and door hardware. Interprets applicable regulations and establishes filing and auditing procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance of records and files. Provides locking security, safety information and technical advice to staff and trains on proper use of equipment. Maintains security and confidentiality of Lockshop area and equipment by following standard procedures.
Duplicates and cuts keys following code and key records by using precision cutting equipment to imprint keys to specification. Fits keys to locks where key is missing and changes key combinations. Plans, codes, sets-up, and cuts keys for Master and Grandmaster key locking systems for individual locks and total buildings following specified plans. Repairs and installs a variety of locking mechanisms, panic exit devices, door knobs, safes, and safe combinations. Fabricates parts for locks when not available. Interprets new building blue prints to remove construction cores and check locks to ensure that they are properly installed and functioning. Installs locking system cores and provides tenants with keys. Performs
preventative maintenance and changes combinations on safes, vault doors, safe deposit boxes and similar containers; opens safes with unknown combinations. Unlocks doors and equipment due to lockouts.
Maintains inventory of key blanks, panic bar systems, cores and other related materials. Reviews stock and replenishes supplies. Maintains catalog of keys to all locking systems for organization to issue keys as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent. Two years experience as journeyman locksmith. Valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record. Some positions within this classification may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, and twist.
