JOB DESCRIPTION: Plans, directs, manages, coordinates, and monitors security and safety operations to ensure the safety and security of lives and property with the institution. Directs others responsible for investigations, physical security, crime prevention education, training, and uniformed security patrol to ensure the safety and security of lives and property within the organization. Coordinates activities and acts as liaison with local law enforcement agencies. Develops departmental short and long term goals and objectives and policies and procedures. Meets with other staff members to discuss progress and to develop future courses of action. Analyzes departmental strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints. Develops organizational policies and procedures concerning the possession, sale, use and consumption of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs, and other general policies relating to organizational security and law enforcement. Administers policies.Manages staff and employee performance. Resolves Human Resource-related issues, determines staffing needs, interviews and hires staff. Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Determines disciplinary, termination and salary actions. Monitors workflow. Coordinates the preparation, processing, and submission of employee information, time cards, Human Resources action forms, job descriptions, employment requisitions, and other information forms for department. Maintains confidentiality of employee records and accurately reports vacation and sick leave. Disseminates security-related information to the appropriate administrators to inform them of situations or incidents warranting public notice. Conducts safety education and crime prevention programs, works cooperatively with organizational administrators, and communicates public safety philosophies to foster willing compliance with regulations. Evaluates and coordinates staff training needs and programs to provide state of the art and on-going training to department employees in the use of materials and equipment required in their jobs. As authorized organization representative, conducts criminal investigations, obtains written statements from witnesses or victims, warrants for arrest, and works cooperatively with outside law enforcement agencies in criminal matters. Generates reports and responses concerning criminal actions and institutional security policies. Complies with local, state, and federal mandates by furnishing crime-related statistics and reports for public information. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field. Seven years of law enforcement experience of which three years are at an administrative level.
