    Develops, designs and implements programs and activities designed to strengthen ties between Multicultural Medical Student Affairs programs and its constituents. Develops, markets, plans, and manages the events/activities coordinated through the designated program. Builds and maintains partnerships and collaborations with representatives from private, government, and international agencies. Develops program relationship both within the division, and other campus offices/schools/divisions. May represent the program off campus and manage the integration of activities with other initiatives. Researches, writes, and submit grants on behalf of MMSA to fund programs; Conducts research, designs new initiatives, writes publishable articles and papers, collaborates with others, and designs programs. Manages a program budget. Provides supervision and professional development of staff. Performs other duties as assigned.




    Associate Director MMSA


    The Associate Director of Multicultural Medical Student Affairs (MMSA) reports to the Director of MMSA. He/she is responsible for conceiving and implementing programs centered around diversity and inclusion in order to recruit and develop diverse learners at the School of Medicine. This person will serve as the expert on recruitment and pipeline program matters and primary liaison between internal/external partners. This work may be accomplished independently or in collaboration with MMSA colleagues as well as SOM and university colleagues. The Associate Director also implements evidence based recruitment and outreach strategies for pipeline initiatives, aimed to increase retention and program impact. This position provides counsel to the Director and Associate Deans as needed on matters of overall MMSA program strategy and operations. Specifically, the Associate Director is responsible for the following areas:

    • Student Engagement and Support Programs
    • Budget Management
    • K-12 outreach/community partnerships
    • MMSA Staff Supervision and Professional Development
    • Grant Writing
    • National HCOP Academy Case Management


    Detailed Description of Duties:


    Office of Multicultural Medical Student Affairs


    1. Lead efforts to conceive and implement comprehensive programs and strategies for learners, in order to accomplish a range of objectives that are aligned with overall SOM diversity goals.
    2. Ensure effectiveness of strategies and programs by documenting, reviewing, and analyzing results in coordination with colleagues.
    3. Manages professional level staff members who lead and support MMSA programs and initiatives
    4. Demonstrate effective personnel and team management when collaborating with others. Create a collegial, supportive, and productive work environment.
    5. Serve as a resource for other MMSA, SOM and other University offices that engage diverse learner populations. Share best practices and provide feedback and assistance when possible on projects.
    6. Works with Director to manage MMSA budgets.
    7. As needed, audit, enter, and query data records for reports, and run reports in various databases and software.
    8. Some travel required. This role will travel for events and related research as needed. 


    National HCOP Academy Program

    1. Performs outreach activities for students and their parents in increasing school/program retention, academic success, college/health career preparedness and advising, and community building.
    2. Promotes student success and parental engagement and responds to identified students’ needs by implementing a comprehensive plan.
    3. Provides on-going in person, phone and email supervision and support to mentors, mentees and parents throughout the duration of the program.
    4. Develop comprehensive training program for mentors. Conducts quarterly one-to-one contacts; resource referrals; and coaching for students.
    5. Completes reports, monitors participant attendance and schedules activities in accordance with program requirements. Participates in advocacy efforts to advance college/educational access for students.
    6. Help students navigate the resources necessary to make positive progress, and advocate better opportunities for them. In collaboration with community based organization and other partners, conduct information sessions for students and parents to present resources and strategies to achieve positive development. Supports and develop products for social outreach.
    7. Develop and nurture relationships with other community and social support providers to aid in effective referrals and timely access to services.
    8. Act as advocate for youth and families including information and referral, crisis intervention, and short term counseling.
    9. Coordinate, organize and facilitate EPiC Summer Institute activities for students. Under the supervision of the Project Director, provides program coordination and support to the EPiC Ambassadors and HealthPREP programs.
