JOB DESCRIPTION: The BMET III is an experienced level position for a highly skilled technician. The BMET III is required to have extensive special manufacturer training on 'high risk' life support equipment. The BMET III performs repairs, preventive maintenance, calibrations, upgrades, and complies with manufacturer's updates and recalls on equipment of this classification. The BMET III spends at least 80% of the time working with life support systems. The BMET III also performs design work, modifications, and/or fabrications as needed. The BMET III designs and installs major equipment systems and networks without assistance from other parties. The BMET III is responsible for the operation of the Heartmate LVAD (console and vented electric) for Surgery, and is a member of the Heartmate transplant call team for this devise. The BMET III reports directly to the Manager of the Biomedical engineering Department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree or diploma in Biomedical Engineering or Electronic technology is required or military equivalent. OEM certification on 'high risk' life support equipment system. A minimum of seven years experience in Biomedical Engineering required. Has a refined knowledge of all types of electronic principles including solid state, and linear and digital integrated circuit operation that can be applied by equipment design, repairs, calibrations, etc. Has considerable knowledge of safety standards, specialty devices, and performance requirements relating to all biomedical equipment. Has extensive knowledge of the operation and physiological principles involving the patient/ equipment interface. Thorough operating knowledge of heart assist devices such as balloon pumps, and Heartmate LVAD. This person also exhibits excellent human relation skills.
