Description

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Provider Network Strategy and Development serves as a senior executive leader responsible for the strategic design, development, and growth of Emory Healthcare’s provider network. This role ensures alignment with the organization’s quality, service, and growth objectives while strengthening Emory’s market position.

The SVP will lead the development of an integrated, high-performing network of employed and affiliated physicians, advanced practice providers, community partners, and regional collaborators. This position also oversees network optimization, including divestitures and strategic refinements.

This leader partners closely with Emory Healthcare Network (EHN) leadership and operational executives to drive alignment and execution. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in healthcare network strategy, provider alignment models, clinically integrated networks, and payer contracting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Network Strategy & Market Development

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive provider network strategy aligned with Emory’s mission, growth objectives, and market positioning.
  • Identify and evaluate affiliation opportunities, including new geographic markets.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of strategic transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and partnerships.
  • Establish a long-term roadmap for provider network expansion and optimization.

Alignment Models & Stakeholder Enablement

  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of provider alignment models, including:
    • Employment models
    • Professional services agreements
    • Co-management agreements
    • Clinically integrated networks
  • Educate and align internal stakeholders on model applicability, implications, and strategic value.
  • Collaborate with key leaders (department chairs, chiefs, EHN leadership, hospital leadership, practice leadership, strategy, and finance) to optimize network alignment and performance.

Transaction Execution & Integration

  • Lead negotiation and execution of transactions, including:
    • Due diligence
    • Financial modeling
    • Provider compensation structuring
    • Integration planning
  • Secure required approvals across Emory entities and medical groups.
  • Oversee cross-functional teams to ensure smooth onboarding and operational transition of affiliated practices.
  • Develop and utilize performance dashboards to monitor network growth and success during initial integration (first year post-alignment).

Quality, Compliance & People Leadership

  • Ensure network adequacy, quality outcomes, and cost management aligned with payer, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations, including:
    • Stark Law
    • Anti-Kickback Statute
    • Other federal and state regulations
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team responsible for network strategy and execution.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Location & Travel

  • Work Type: On-site
  • Travel: Required between Emory operating units and affiliated sites

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • MD, DO, MBA, MHA, MPH, or other relevant advanced degree required

Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience
  • Demonstrated senior-level responsibility in one or more of the following:
    • Provider network development
    • Physician enterprise management
    • Health system strategy

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven success in:
    • Physician recruitment and alignment
    • Contract negotiation
    • Large-scale integration initiatives
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Physician alignment models
    • Medical group operations
    • Healthcare regulatory and compliance frameworks
    • Value-based care models
    • Payer strategy and contracting
    • Healthcare finance
