Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Reporting to the Dir, Payroll, EHI, the position is key in ensuring compliance with various state and local reporting and regulations related to employment.
  • Functions as subject matter expert for compliance.
  • Responsible for the development, administration, and revision of policies and procedures governing taxation and compliance.
  • Works with management to ensure fair and consistent interpretation and application of policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance and registration associated with employees working outside the state of Georgia.
  • Attends meetings and provides direction on resolving complex tax issues.
  • Coordinates and prepares weekly, monthly, and quarterly state and local tax deposits and filings, year-end W2s for state and local jurisdictions, and year end reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with state governmental laws on payroll accounting and taxes.
  • Ensures that payroll processing is in compliance for taxation with state and local agencies as required.
  • Works with technical teams to analyze payroll issues, provide appropriate action plans, and test resolution.
  • Provides ad-hoc and standard reports by leveraging system queries and reports.
  • Updates payroll system tax table setups as needed.
  • Generates audit reports with each payroll run to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Identifies payroll processing issues and partners with PeopleSoft HR/Payroll system technical teams to test solution and resolved.
  • Provides input for process improvements and to enhance and/or streamline payroll operations.
  • Researches and provides resolution for state and local employment, payroll, and tax issues.
  • Ensures payroll and tax documents are filed timely and accurately.
  • Partners with other colleagues as appropriate to provide monthly reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates procedures and internal processes with external vendor for tax reporting.
  • Ensures quality control of financial information and reports by performing reviews to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Maintains applicable records and files and ensures they are easily accessible.
  • Interprets applicable regulations and establishes filing and auditing procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field and five years of experience or payroll compliance field.
  • Combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to details.
  • Must have experience with multi-state taxation and solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll practices.
  • Knowledge of local and government payroll-related tax laws and regulations a plus.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft HR/Payroll system and ADP Smart Compliance highly desirable.
  • Payroll certification, state and local payroll experience, or CPA is a plus.
