Description

Summary: The Director of Hospital Budgets is a financial leader responsible for providing oversight to the development, implementation, and management of budgeting processes for the Emory Healthcare Hospitals (the Hospitals). This role is important in ensuring financial stability and efficiency by providing operating budget guidance for the Hospitals and supporting the  long-term financial goals of Emory Healthcare.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight to the annual operating budgeting process for the Hospitals, including the preparation of detailed operating budgets and supporting schedules. Coordinate with Emory Healthcare Finance Leadership, as well as Hospital Division CFO’s and unit specific DFO’s, to ensure that operating budgets align with system level strategic goals and unit specific goals and operational needs.
  • Monitor and analyze budget performance and identify variances to assist in corrective action decision making.  Utilize decision support system and tools to assist in projecting revenues and expenses and financial performance of the Hospitals.
  • Work closely with Emory Healthcare Finance leadership and Hospital Division CFO’s and unit specific DFO’s to understand financial needs and constraints. Provide financial insights to support decision-making.
  •  Manage and mentor a team of Hospital focused analysts to help support this function. Assist in providing training and guidance on budgeting processes and best practices.
  • Continuously assess and enhance budgeting processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required. Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, MBA) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial management, including 3+ years in a budgeting or financial planning role within a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
    • In-depth knowledge of healthcare finance, regulations, revenue cycle and cost structures.
    • Proficient in healthcare specific financial software and decision support systems (e.g. EPSI, Strata, EPIC, Peoplesoft).
    • Strong team management capabilities.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
