JOB DESCRIPTION: Oversees the day to day operations of the Surgical Processing and Distribution Department (SPD). Effectively coordinates daily staffing and work activities to assure all tasks are completed efficiently within the specified standards of quality actions. Requires the ability to react in a calm and effective manner in emergency situations. Cross trained to work in all areas of SPD. Needs to be creative and well-organized. Works closely with ancillary and support services team members and acts as a resource for staff. Oversees assembly, packaging, and sterilization of packs and supplies. Proficiently performs and supervises accurate sterilization and packaging of instrumentation. Has knowledge of sterilization processes and the appropriate verification of sterilization. Ensures accurate and complete daily distribution of supplies for surgical case carts. Responsible for the inventory and supply of surgical exchange carts and case carts. Prepares documentation and takes personal responsibility for work performed. Identifies variations in processes that require follow-up and reports to manager. Identification of instrument sets by common and standardized terminology. Ergonomics of operation of all carts. Must be competent in computer skills related to instrument tracking and computer lab training classes upon completion of orientation. Competent to recognize potential and actual processing errors and immediately follows-up according to procedure or management instruction. Supervises the retrieval of information for recall, instrument/set/supply locations and instrument/set identification. Responds immediately to customer requests for instrument location with effective communication and high-quality customer service conduct. Plans operational schedules for ASC staff; Orders supplies, instruments and other needed items for the operating unit; Manages time and attendance for all designated staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred. Certified and Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST) certification required. Five years of related experience. Must have strong leadership, management and organization skills; verbal and written communication skills; the ability to effectively plan and adapt quickly to system changes.
