Clinical Nutrition Dietetic Internship – Emory Healthcare


Emory Healthcare is seeking motivated future Registered Dietitians for our full-time, in-person Dietetic Internship based in Atlanta, GA. This program provides supervised practice hours in clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and foodservice management to prepare graduates for entry-level RD practice.

 

Program Dates: Program runs from August 10th, 2026 to May 21st, 2027

Location: Emory University Hospital (Atlanta, GA)
Schedule: Full-time, on-site
Program Type: Tuition-based internship ( unpaid internship)

 

Minimum Requirements
• DPD verification
• Bachelor’s degree
• Master’s degree completed by May 2027 preferred (no later than Oct 2027)
• Minimum 3.0 GPA (overall and science)

Description

 

Works under the supervision of a registered dietitian to gain practical experience in various areas of nutrition and dietetics. Learn to provide nutrition education, participate in food service management, providing nutrition care, counseling, and developing meal plans.

 

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist Registered Dietitians in the assessment, planning, and implementation of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for patients across diverse populations and conditions.
  • Conduct nutrition screenings, collect patient data, and document findings in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) following hospital policies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
  • Observe and contribute to outpatient nutrition counseling and education sessions.
  • Support food service operations by assisting with menu planning, special diets, sanitation audits, and production oversight.
  •  Engage in community outreach and education programs as assigned.
  • Complete assigned projects, case studies, and presentations as part of academic and site requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies.

By the end of this internship, the Dietetic Intern will:

  • Demonstrate competency in clinical nutrition care across multiple disease states.
  • Understand the operational aspects of hospital foodservice systems.
  • Apply the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) in real-world settings.
  •  Exhibit professionalism, ethical behavior, and effective communication as part of a healthcare team.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • A bachelors degree in food and nutrition or dietetics.
    • Masters degree conferred either prior to start or within 57 weeks of starting the internship program.
  • Experience:
    • Accepted into the Emory University Hospital Dietetic Internship Program. Completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics prior to start.

 

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities (required):
    • Competent in basic computer skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs.; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs., 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs., 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
