Description

The Director of Financial Operations is a key leadership position within the healthcare organization's finance department.  This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations, processes, and systems to ensure the financial health and stability of Emory's operating unit.  The Director of Financial Operations reports directly to the Division Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and collaborates closely with other senior management, clinical department heads, and administrators.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy:

  • Develop, implement, and communicate the financial strategy of the organization, aligned with its overall goals and objectives.
  • Provide input and recommendations to the CFO and executive management regarding financial decisions and revenue generation.

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Lead onsite hospital efforts pertaining to the annual budgeting and forecasting process, in collaboration with EHC's financial planning department and working closely with clinical department heads to establish financial targets and guidelines.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying opportunities for cost control and revenue enhancement.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other financial metrics, to the CFO, senior management, and other governing bodies.

Financial Operations:

  • Oversee daily financial operations, including labor management (productivity), expense management, and month end variance explanations.
  • Acts as a liaison to execute onsite process improvement efforts pertaining to revenue cycle to optimize revenue capture and minimize denials.
  • Lead a high-performing financial operation functions by providing guidance and education to clinical department leaders.
  • Coordinate and support system initiatives to improve the financial health of the organization
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and excellence within the department.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously evaluate financial processes and systems, identifying opportunities for streamlining and efficiency improvements.
  • Implement best practices to enhance the overall financial operations of the organization.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to achieve financial objectives.
  • Additional Duties as Assigned.

Travel:

  • Less than 10% of the time may be required but travel between OUs may be required at times

Work Type:

  • Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the office.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required. A master's degree (e.g., MBA or MFin) is often preferred.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in financial management and leadership, typically with a minimum of 7-10 years in progressively responsible roles.
  • Preferably in the healthcare industry.

Skills, Abilities, & Knowledge:

  • Strong financial analysis and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • The Director of Financial Operations plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial sustainability of the healthcare organization and contributes significantly to its overall success.
