Description

  • The Dispatcher, Courier role is responsible for coordinating daily courier operations to ensure the timely, compliant, and efficient transport of specimens, medical supplies, and materials across hospitals, outpatient clinics, and research facilities
  • Scheduling and dispatching couriers, monitoring routes in real time, and adjusting for delays to protect patient-care timelines
  • The position ensures strict adherence to chain-of-custody and regulatory requirements, particularly for temperature-sensitive specimens
  • By resolving operational issues, supporting training, and contributing to performance tracking and route optimization, this role plays a critical part in maintaining service quality, supporting patient care, and advancing departmental and organizational objectives
  • Coordinate daily courier operations:
    • Schedule and dispatch couriers for STAT, scheduled and will call pick ups and supply deliveries across hospitals, outpatient clinics and research facilities
    • Monitor routes in real time, track courier locations via dispatch software and adjust routes to address traffic, weather or clinic access delays
  • Resolve operational issues:
    • Reprioritize dispatches, reassign couriers and escalate incidents to leadership to maintain service quality and patient care timelines
  • Ensure regulatory compliance:
    • Ensure accurate chain of custody documentation and enforce all regulatory and institutional transport policies, including temperature controlled handling for ambient, refrigerated and frozen specimens
  • Support quality and efficiency:
    • Track on-time performance metrics, recommend route optimizations, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with training and orientation:
    • Provide guidance to new couriers on dispatch procedures, communication standards, and system workflows
  • Travel: Less than 10% of the time may be required
  • Work Type: Onsite employee - works in the office

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education - High school diploma
  • Experience - 1 year minimum experience in supply chain, logistics, dispatch, courier services, or related field

Knowledge, skills, and abilities (required):

  • Route Planning and Real-Time Problem Solving
  • Regulatory and Documentation Accuracy
  • Communication and Coordination Preferred Qualifications Education
  • Associates degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or related field
  • Experience - 3 years of experience in supply chain, logistics, dispatch, courier services, or related field
