Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the preparation, distribution, inventory, and management of both Human Milk (HM) ad Donor Human Milk (DHM). Applies established principles and practices of appropriate infection control, technical calculations involving weights, measures conversions and metrics to the daily operation of the NICU Milk Lab. Correctly manage the receiving and labeling of mothers HM according to established procedures. Accurately weighs, measures, and prepares breast milk and formula for infant feeds per recipe based on physicians orders. Recipe is provided by NICU Nurse RN. Prepares feedings using pre-established feeding preparation procedures and adheres to quality control standards. Accurately document and labels all human milk prepared for each individual patient. Properly stores breast milk and formula until delivered to patient care area. Uses aseptic techniques according to established procedures to prepare and store breast milk and formula for infant feeding. Maintains sanitation standards in the Milk Lab including cleaning and sanitizing or cleaning all work surfaces used in milk preparation before and after each feeding preparation. Ensures that milk is stored correctly using temperature settings to keep milk at recommended temperatures at all times. Accurately documents the number of syringes/bottles, milk volumes and additives as needed on the according to policy. Delivers prepared milk to the appropriate nursing unit per scheduled daily delivery. Removes unused, previously prepared feedings from patient care refrigerators 24 hours after preparation time and discards according to protocol. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: High school diploma required. Some college courses preferred. Minimum 1 to 3 years¿ experience as a Patient Care Assistant or experience as a Lactation Technician desirable

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks
