Description

  • The Director, Infection Prevention provides leadership for projects and improvement activities principally centered on infection prevention and the implementation of evidence-based practices in all clinical settings
  • S/he will provide program leadership and clinical expertise for work on infection prevention and epidemiology while organizing expert workgroups and teams to accomplish system-wide improvement efforts
  • In addition s/he provides support and facilitation to work teams, application of Lean and Project Management tools, meeting management, interdisciplinary communications and prioritization of strategies and tactics driven by the Emory Healthcare Strategic plan and our ongoing regulatory compliance efforts
  • The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes Emory mission, values, and philosophy
  • In all aspects, he/she serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization
  • The position reports to the Corporate Director, Infection Prevention and must establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff at all levels in the Division of Quality, as well as with other Emory Healthcare staff, vendors, agents, and others
  • Key working relationships include infection control practitioners in all regions; nursing, quality, accreditation, risk management and other clinical staff in all regions; service partners in Emory Digital, informatics, supply chain and other departments. Successful accomplishment of the primary accountabilities of the position is dependent upon establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of caregivers, core leaders and clinicians
    • Develops and maintains methods to share information across the system about common issues and effective practices to meet internal and external expectations. Methods may include, but are not limited to, conference calls, list serves, bulletin boards, videoconferences, SharePoint sites, websites, etc. 
    • Provides program leadership and analytical support for work on infection control, including developing workgroup/council/committee charters and work plans, leading multi-disciplinary work teams, coordinating accountabilities, managing timelines, and monitoring progress to ensure that timelines and deliverables are met
    • Collaborates with clinical analytics to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of reporting processes
    • Works with stakeholders to determine the value of enterprise-wide, evidence-based standard practices in infection control, and coordinates teams and work efforts in support of developing and implementing these standard practices
    • Plans strategic meetings and creates agenda and associated materials for teams as needed
    • Prepares communication documents for initiatives with system-wide impact - memos, process flow charts, organization charts, accountability matrices, policies and procedures
    • Understands the interdependencies among people, process, and technology in successful execution of large scale, complex change
    • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide variety of people within Emory Healthcare and with other organizations
    • Thinks strategically and translates strategic business initiatives into operational programs
    • Escalates critical issues, changes, problems, or delays to project sponsors and/or management
  • Travel: Some travel between operating units
  • Work Type: Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the office

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor in Science (Microbiology, Biology, Nursing, Public Health)
    • Or A combination of more than three (3) years of Managerial/Director experience and Board Certified longer than five (5) years will be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
  • Experience:
    • The position requires a minimum seven years of nursing experience if an RN, OR
    • Or A minimum 10 years of experience in Infection prevention, with demonstrated experience clinical microbiology, communicable diseases, data collection, analysis and adult education required
  • Certification:
    • Board Certification in Infection Prevention and Control
    • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required or must be obtained within two years of hire
  • Skills:
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Advanced communication, presentation, teaching, facilitation and negotiation skills
    • Highly respected within the organization; works successfully at all levels of organization
