The Manager of Digital Experience will be a hybrid player-coach role, responsible for leading design efforts while also managing the user experience and user interface across web and mobile platforms. This position requires a hands-on approach to design work as well as managing relationships with agencies and external contractors to ensure design consistency and quality.
As the Manager of Digital Experience, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, and engineering, to deliver engaging and intuitive digital experiences.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing the creative and strategic sides of design, from rolling up their sleeves to create mockups and wireframes to coaching junior designers and collaborating with external teams to ensure high-quality execution.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Design Leadership & Execution:
- Lead and execute UX/UI design projects from concept to delivery for web and mobile applications, ensuring designs are user-centered and aligned with business goals.
- Produce high-quality design deliverables including wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and UI components.
- Maintain and promote a consistent design system across all platforms and digital touchpoints.
- Implement design best practices to optimize usability, accessibility, and performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams to iterate and improve designs based on user feedback and analytics.
2) Player-Coach Role:
- Manage a team of designers, providing both hands-on guidance and mentorship to ensure design consistency and quality.
- Be involved in the design process, working alongside your team to develop solutions while also coaching them in their professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative and creative environment that empowers designers to take ownership of their work and develop their skills.
- Support junior designers by reviewing their work, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring that they meet established standards.
3) Agency & Contractor Collaboration:
- Manage and nurture relationships with design agencies and third-party contractors to ensure external designs meet Emory Healthcare's standards and vision.
- Coordinate with external teams to ensure that design work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the desired quality level.
- Work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment on design objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
4) Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with marketing and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of design solutions across digital platforms.
- Participate in user research and testing to gather insights that inform design decisions.
- Collaborate with account managers and stakeholders to define requirements and translate business goals into effective user-centered design solutions.
5) Performance & Analytics:
- Use data-driven insights and analytics to inform design decisions and optimize user experiences.
- Lead user testing and feedback sessions to iterate and improve designs continuously.
- Stay current on industry trends and design best practices, ensuring that the team adopts innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Proven experience in designing responsive websites and mobile apps, with a strong portfolio demonstrating your expertise.
- Experience managing or mentoring a team of designers and collaborating with external agencies or contractors.
2) Skills:
- Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design, and visual design.
- Excellent skills in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and others.
- Experience creating and maintaining design systems.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and collaborate across teams.
- Analytical mindset, with the ability to integrate user research and analytics into design decisions.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while ensuring high-quality delivery.
3) Education:
- Bachelors degree in Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field (or equivalent experience).
4) Tools & Technologies:
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
- Familiarity with front-end development concepts (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with design for accessibility (WCAG).
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaborating with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment. - Experience with design handoff tools like Zeplin or similar.
