Description

The Manager of Patient Transportation is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of patient transport services within their assigned facility and/or sector(s). This role ensures the safe, timely, and efficient movement of patients throughout the hospital, including admissions, discharges, and rapid responses (if applicable).

 

.The manager supervises the patient transport team, collaborates with various departments, and ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and best practices.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1. Supervision and Leadership: Manage and lead the patient transport team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Manage labor productivity, expenses and budget including payroll. Foster a positive and professional work environment that supports team collaboration and individual growth.
  • 2. Operational Oversight: 
    • Develop and implement protocols and procedures for patient transportation to ensure efficiency and patient safety. 
    • Develop department goals for patient transport team and individualized goals for leads, supervisors and transporters.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the patient transport department, including the assignment of transport requests and management of transport equipment.
    • Monitor and analyze department performance metrics, ensuring targets for timeliness and patient satisfaction are met.
    • Produces and distributes reports on performance metrics, staffing models and volume to department leaders as requested.
  • 3. Coordination and Communication:
    • Collaborate with medical staff, nursing units, and other departments to coordinate patient movements and address any issues or concerns. 
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for patient transportation issues, resolving problems and making decisions in a timely manner.
  • 4. Compliance and Safety: 
    • Ensure that all transport activities comply with healthcare regulations, facility policies, and safety standards.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections of equipment and transport practices to maintain high standards of safety and hygiene.
  • 5. Budget and Resource Management:
    • Manage the department budget, including procurement of transport equipment and supplies.
    • Optimize resource utilization to balance cost control with the need for high-quality patient transport services.
  • 6. Quality Improvement: 
    • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of patient transport services.
    • Collect and analyze feedback from patients and staff to identify areas for improvement and implement changes as needed.
  • 7. General Transport:
    • This position will be required to work in transport in times of high volume and/or staff shortages.
    • Responds immediately to emergent patient situations, initiates emergency life-saving techniques such as CPR using high quality resuscitation Basic Life Support
    • Must complete training upon hiring as related to appropriate PPE use, patient moving techniques, basic life support, patient equipment care training for telemetry boxes, IV pumps, and more.

 

Qualifications: Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • A combination Equivalent experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in healthcare, patient transport services or closely related industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft office skills preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations, patient safety standards, and transport best practices.
