Description

Primary function: We are seeking an experienced Director of Financial Assistance to lead and enhance our financial counseling services across both hospital operations and outpatient specialty clinics.

 

This role is essential in ensuring a seamless patient experience throughout their healthcare journey, from pre-service to post-care. The Director will oversee financial counseling operations within our hospitals as well as in outpatient clinics.

 

The position will focus on self-pay collections (including balance after insurance), patient estimates, screening patients for Medicaid eligibility, and determining qualification for charity financial assistance when Medicaid is not an option.

 

Primary duties and responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Management:

  • Develop and implement initiatives with all stakeholder groups (including external vendors as well as internal partners) to streamline financial counseling processes to ensure an efficient and effective patient financial experience.
  • Provide strategic leadership and management to financial counseling teams in both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. Cultivate a supportive and growth-oriented environment for counselors, promoting specialization and professional development.

 

2. Patient-Centric Financial Counseling:

  • Oversee the financial counseling process to ensure a seamless experience for patients from pre-service through post-service.
  • Directly engage with patients as necessary to provide clear guidance on insurance eligibility status (including in-network vs. out-of-network monitoring, benefits, etc.), financial options, focusing on Medicaid screening and charity assistance eligibility.
  • Ensure that counselors are equipped to educate patients about their financial responsibilities, insurance eligibility/benefits, referral/authorization status, payment options, and available support options.

3. Operational Excellence:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of financial counseling services, optimizing workflows and resource allocation to enhance patient access and service delivery.
  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics and implement quality improvement initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and financial outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and execute on improvement projects

4. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with hospital administration, clinic leaders, and other departments to ensure integrated financial counseling services.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with all stakeholders, providing updates and insights on financial counseling operations and patient impact.

 

5. Compliance and Program Development:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and policies related to financial counseling, Medicaid eligibility, and charity assistance programs.
  • Develop and implement programs to enhance patient understanding of financial assistance options, including Medicaid and charity care. 

Travel: Less than 10% of the time may be required. Work Type: Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the office.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in business, English, history or Poly-Sci or related field Experience7 years minimum experience with at least 5 years in a management position

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education - Master's Degree in business, English, history or Poly-Sci or related field Experience
  • 10 years minimum experience with at least 5 years in a management position Knowledge, skills, and ability

Requirements:

  • The Director of Financial Assistance will need to be an adept problem solver, capable of identifying and addressing challenges that arise in both hospital and clinic settings to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • This role requires a proactive approach in developing innovative solutions to improve processes, enhance patient satisfaction, and streamline communication across diverse teams.
  • Program / workflow design Experience with Medicaid Eligibility Insurance and Claims Knowledge
