Description

We are seeking a Hospital Inpatient Coder to extract data from patient encounters ensuring the accuracy of DRGs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Hospital Inpatient Coder I will be oriented in the application of clinical coding based on the official Coding Convention guidelines and the AHA Coding Clinic, to assign ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 codes to the highest level of accuracy for each inpatient encounter.
  • Works closely with the Coding Manager and/or designee in identifying key documentation to extrapolate for quality and reimbursement.
  • Plays a key role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures accuracy of DRGs and extraction of core data into the HIMs abstracting system.
  • Incumbent will also be instructed on the basic fundamentals of writing queries and establishing professional relationships with physicians, CDI, and other relevant individuals in order to facilitate the billing process.
  • Must maintain established productivity and achieve 95% accuracy rate on quality reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 yrs OP coding experience to include ambulatory surgery, observation, emergency dept and diagnostic coding; minimum use of clinical coding books required.
  • CPC, CPC-H, CCA, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P certification.
